Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy

Interpersonal Psychotherapy or IPT, is a short-term, focused treatment for depression. Studies have shown that IPT, which addresses interpersonal issues, may be at least as effective as short-term treatment with antidepressants for moderate to severe depression.  It is effective in treating depression in young people.

It is a collaborative therapy, supporting clients to link mood with interpersonal contacts, understand attachment and recognise that by appropriately addressing interpersonal situations they can improve relationships and depressive moods to reduce the symptoms of depression. The main area of treatment are:

  • Complex grief

  • Life and role transition

  • Difficulty in forming and maintaining relationships

  • Conflicts and disputes in one or more relationships

A comprehensive relapse plan will be also be completed to keep for future reference.

FIRST SESSION

The first session will be an assessment session. During our time together, we will gather more information and to get to know each other. This will enable us to reach an understanding about what you would like to get from your therapy/treatment with me. I will guide you through my ethical practice and answer any queries you may have about confidentiality.

This is done collaboratively; with your needs as the priority and focus.

Sessions usually last between 50-90 minutes depending on what we are working on together. I will now explain a little bit about each of the therapies to provide you with some information.
